November Gnu’s Room News

Hopefully, everyone is remembering to check our website at
www.thegnusroom.com for the latest store events. Just a quick reminder
of the Science Cafe this evening. Our guest speaker is Jorge Munoz,
who is finishing up work on his PhD in Physics at Auburn. His topic
will be Nuclear Fusion.

Saturday, November 15th at 7:00 p.m. will be the last event of the Sun
Belt Reading Series for this year. The readers will be Kirk Curnutt of
Troy University-Montgomery, Ron Riekki and Carrie Spell of Auburn, and
Shanti Wieland of the U. of A. Kirk has a published novel and short
story collection and was a crowd favorite at his reading last year.
Ron has a new novel, “U.P.,” and will be signing copies after the
reading. Carrie’s fiction has been published in numerous literary
journals and magazines and she has twice been nominated for the
Pushcart Prize. Shanti has a chapbook, “Daughter En Route,” and won
the Joan Johnson award for her poetry. Don’t miss this wonderful
event, which always brings surprises!

Saturday also brings an event for the younger set, namely those in
grades 4 – 6. Laurie Brenden of Brenden Designs will be presenting a
reading of Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree, followed by a fun art
project called The Thankful Tree. There is a fee for this event of $10
payable to Brenden Designs to help offset the cost of the art
supplies. The event is from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

The Gnu’s Room will be closed Thanksgiving Day, November 27th, but
will reopen on the 28th with regular business hours.

If you are just starting your holiday shopping, or trying to finish
up, please consider a Gnu’s Room gift certificate. It’s the perfect
gift for the readers and coffee aficionados on your list!

As always, thanks for reading!
