I’ll start….
This is my favorite and most used coffee cup. I have a decent collection of cups and mugs but this one just happens to be exactly the right size for me. It also works out that I picked it up in California a few years back on Olvera Street. It would have been a shame if it was the pink one I was given by the carpet cleaners.

Coffee for Company – 5 Quick Tips
Here are a few tips to help you the next time you are having company and serving coffee.
- Buy a glass lined carafe. This simple piece of hardware can keep coffee fresh for hours. If the people who are coming are equal amounts regular and decaf then you might need two. For under 20 dollars you can have a ready reserve of coffee already hot and ready for your guests. When they request coffee, start a pot and pour from the carafe. Brew the coffee a couple hours before anyone is supposed to show up and you’ll be set.
- Buy Whole beans, and an inexpensive grinder. While pre-ground coffee is a time saver it also doesn’t have the same full flavor profile. Grind the coffee earlier in the day, right around the same time you start your pot for the carafe. Grind one serving at a time and place them into individual baggies in the freezer directly after grinding. The coffee will taste better.
- Pull the pot. Place a trivet, coaster or some other device to rest your pot on directly after its done brewing. Remove the pot from heat as soon as the drip stops, coffee left on the warmer for any longer than 10 minutes starts to get bitter, even if the initial brew was smooth. Burning the coffee is a common mistake. Your better off having to nuke a cup of coffee than have sour faces.
- Sugar and Spice. Check the sugar bowl and use a creamer, it makes for better presentation and an easy setup. Also consider using small jelly jars for any other spices you want to offer, or a unique sprinkler. Remember to put out the Vanilla extract.
- Avoid flavored coffee. Nothing polarizes a room quicker than brewing a sickly sweet pot of hazelnut vanilla only to find that half the room detests hazelnut. Use flavored syrups or spices instead to add flavor.

Bonus: When picking your coffee, choose a medium roast. Dark roasted coffee tend to have a stronger flavor, and can come off burnt even when they are fresh brewed. a nice medium roast should suite most palates nicely.
One last thought, know your audience, ask ahead of time who drinks what, uses what and try your best to have a ready supply of cream, milk, sugar and artificial sweeteners. You would be surprised at just how many people have very strong opinions on just which artificial sweetener they like.

Two New Local Coffee Shops Are Coming! Trumor?
Auburn Coffee has been made aware of two new coffee shops coming to town over the next few months. We have to keep them in the rumor stage now however until we get more feedback from the parties responsible for starting the shops. What we do know about the shops if they do indeed come is that one will be in downtown Opelika and the other in Village mall.
What we know so far:
Auburn Shop:
Name: The Coffee Cup
Location: The Village Mall
Opening: August 1st, 2008
People connected to this project: Vernalisa Pena
Opelika Shop:
Name: Red Door June Coffee & Floral Co.
Location: Historic Downtown Opelika
Opening: June 14, 2008
Featuring: Coffee, Espresso, Tea, Pastries and Italian sodas
People connected to this project: Dennis Smythe, Originally from San Diego, CA & Graduae of the Amarican Barista and Coffee School
If you know anything else about these shops please let us know. If you are, or know the owners, please contact us asap.
At our last count this would put little Auburn/Opelika to 11 coffee shops. And that’s if you count all the Sbucks as one even though they are at 4 or 5 if you count their piggyback shops.

Auburn Coffee Merchandise
Ok, we have stuff for sale but before you think we have just gotten a big head here’s the story. We are using Cafepress to
give you the opportunity to get Auburn Coffee branded stuff like mugs and tshirts. We’d love to have you get the stuff but through Cafepress we don’t have to order inventory and you order it directly. We are doing this because we can and not because we think we are going to sell tons of gear. Also, we
aren’t ordering in bulk so the prices are competitive but not steals. If you guys order a bunch of merch we may look into other ways of handling Auburn Coffee products in the future.
However, we like this stuff and we would get it if we were you. Think about it, an Auburn Coffee branded coffee mug for everyone at the office for their birthday. A stein for your ma and pa for mother and fathers day. The possibilities are endless. I’m probably going to get the suit for my dog!
